This sweet family of BEAUTIFUL girls came over to Hansen’s with me for a Sno-Ball Mini-Session, and since summer is winding down, I thought I’d post about a favorite summer treat! It was loads of fun, with big sister Ava being her sweet, silly, sassy self; Zaina being ecstatic about life, which is amazingly how she ALWAYS is; and Sareena loving the sno-balls and hoarding them to herself! It was hilarious. We just looked over and Sareena had them ALL! Thanks for bringing the girls for a treat with me, Ayesha and Aaron!
This was a fantastic session — beautiful setting, beautiful light, and THE MOST COOPERATIVE TWO-YEAR-OLD on the planet. For real. The sweetest little guy who lasted for over an hour of pictures. I was amazed! Little Gentry is now one of my faves, and I adore the image of his silhouette with his fat cheeks and little Buddha belly hanging over his waistband. These are also some of my most favorite family portraits ever! I love this sweet family, and handsome little charmer!
Grace, Isabel and Caroline are triplets, and they are quite the trio. They are so funny, and each so very different. It was FREEZING on this day, but they’re so busy we didn’t want to move the session date — so we literally had the car pulled up to where we were shooting, and while I did individual shots I made the other two sit in the heated car! I knew noses would start getting red and eyes would be watering after too long, so we moved quickly and the girls cooperated beautifully. They got a little hyped up (as 3 pre-teens usually do) and it was SO FUNNY when Grace, who is always in charge, got her sisters in line by saying, “Be a first-time listener!” while I was arranging them in poses. That was the first time I’d ever heard that, and it’s PERFECT! Their mom says they hear it at school. 🙂 Brilliant!
It’s really true. As adults, we can really get bogged down in the everyday routine. But the stuff that kids come up with… it’s why I never get tired of working with them. Yesterday I got to go to Santa’s Secret Workshop with a great friend and her 3 great kiddos, and watching them get so excited made me re-think rolling my eyes about the elf actors with the fake British accents (not sure why they had them, maybe they thought it sounded exotic?). Watching Ingrid giggle with her eyes all crinkled up, or Leo brave his Santa-phobia (“I don’t want to see Santa because I cried last time”) to realize he really DID like chatting with him and his “loooooong beard”… watching them both, unprompted, make sure to get their baby brother Noam a candy cane from Santa because Noam didn’t want to get too close… well, it was the best. It got me over the hump of being glued to my work at this time of year and into the real Christmas spirit. I mean, I went to the North Pole yesterday!!!
I think I’ll work on being more like a kid in 2014.
Little Nathan is one year old already, and I used to think he looked exactly like his daddy. But at this session, I really feel like I can see a lot of his mama in him now, too. He’s the perfect combo of both! His big (four-legged) sister Cassie was also in our pictures, and she was super cooperative helping her little brother stand up. They are so sweet together — she’s such a good dog and Nathan loves her so much!
This sweet family is leaving New Orleans for a new post for Mom and Dad, so we squeezed in Hayes’ 1 year session at about 9 months old (we did his 8 month studio session just a couple of weeks ago, that blog post is just a few down!). Since they loved their time here in NOLA, they requested the family session we do at the end of the Baby’s First Year package to be down in the Quarter. It was super-crowded and hot, but we got great shots and Hayes was in the best mood ever! He’s teething like crazy, so it was a toss up — but he was nothing but smiles! I will miss seeing him!!
Talking to mama…
Look at that dimpled hand!!! In LOVE!!!
Sweet, happy baby NJ is one year old…and I feel like we were taking newborn pictures just yesterday! He’s always been such a happy, loving little guy, and I was super-impressed with how well he did at this session. At this time of year we don’t start shooting until about 7 pm outdoors, and he was as happy as can be, despite that hour being late for babies and toddlers! His daddy put it best, when I was gushing to his parents about how lucky they are to have such a wonderful, laid-back, happy-go-lucky baby; he said, “He has a great spirit.” I love that description — and he really does!!!
Samuel is ONE. YEAR. OLD. This seems impossible to me. Doesn’t he look like a tiny little man here? I think the change between the 8 month session and the one year session shocks me the most, because they have changed SO MUCH — and they change equally between newborn and 4 months, and then between 4 months and 8 months, but for those sessions they’re still babies. At the one year session they have graduated to look like toddlers, and I think that’s why it always shocks me so much. When Samuel was sitting there in his little khakis and yellow polo, his mom and I just sighed. We were both thinking the exact same thing when she said to him, “Samuel, you just look like a little man sitting there!”
This beautiful (and perfectly color-coordinated!) family met me in the park for their session. Little Marcus is practically Flash Gordon, he just zips from one place to another with the speed of a comic book hero! He was so adorable I didn’t know what to do with him!! He was fascinated with the ducks, then the Christmas in the Oaks lights, and then he saw the PLAYGROUND… and it was all over. He pined for that playground until we finally let him on the swings…where he promptly fell in love with the little girl on the swing next to him. It was a VERY eventful day for a not-yet-2-year-old! 🙂
